Check Out Calling Attention to Yourself

There are symbols are called HTML character entities or extended characters. They are generated by strange looking code on the web page that the web browser interprets as symbols.  Tess has an very interesting post for those who may wish to use these special decorative characters in their blogs.

  1. Most of them don’t really show up for me, I get a rectangle with four digits in it (I know I looked that up once, but can’t remember what it meant. Something not showing properly. I see it with Firefox and used to see it also with I.E. when I used it, so probably not to do with the browser. But anyway, while I think these things can look fantastic, I’m not fond of them when they appear in comments… drive me potty!

However, there’s one I use, via my numerical keypad. So here for a great blog (yours, TT):

    • Hi Val,
That will be of interest to Tess as she is wondering about browser compatibility. Exactly which browsers and versions of them are you using?

      • I no longer use anything other Firefox now, but when I had I.E. I had the same problem. I updated my Firefox just a week or so ago, so it’s whatever the latest version is – 9, I think.

        • The latest stable version is Firefox 9.0.1 and I’m using it too but I don’t have any trouble seeing the characters at all.

I only use IE when I have to help other people.

  2. Hi,
I have been reading about you through forums.
I have made a blog on visual basic for me and my friends, as a reference tool for studies.
But I need help in appearence.
Somewhere in forum you said, a bunch of post makes categories, pages are static, categories can be made into menu. So on this basis I want to maka a menu bar where on clicking menu only categories relevant to that menu should appear and not other post or category should be seen. Just like your translation menu. Where links only related to languages is visible.
And yes, second, how you did that in blog – translation.

    Thanks for consideration . .
