On December 1, 2011 YouTube got a makeover inluding  a new homepage, Channel design and a fresh coat of digital paint. Here are three ways these updates aim to improve your YouTube experience:

1.  A new homepage – You can now create your own, personal, customizable YouTube Channel line-up,  customize your homepage’s feed; even link your YouTube account to Google+ and Facebook.

2.  Simpler, customizable Channels – There’s a new Channel design and now there are four new Channel templates too.

3.  A new overall design –  Feedback  on the  experimental design called Cosmic Panda insulted in a cleaner and simpler design, with a consistent gray background, bigger video thumbnails and a more streamlined watch page.

  1. I like the new look :) I agree with a lot changing with Google too and it is indeed hard to keep up with everything. I do think the changes are good from what I’ve seen so far though

  2. It sure did. I’ve opted to stay with my original designs rather than new style. The generic design of the new look doesn’t appeal to me. The functionality is fine, but any use of YouTube requires a little study and homework to master the details anyway. Lots of change happening in Google Land right now.

    • I haven’t set up an account yet. It’s on my list of things to do. You’re certainly right about lots of Google changes happening. I’m finding it hard to keep up with them.

      • Very tough keeping up with Google right now with all the changes. Actually I am using YouTube mostly for uploading my own stuff now. Embedding YouTube videos from other sources is simple but I do uncheck ‘Show suggested videos when the video finishes’ when embedding as standard procedure. That way the video just stops and doesn’t suggest related videos which may or may not be something you want to be associated with.

Actually the new style looks fine for individual channels, but if you want to have a unique signature or look a little customizing is in order. About a full day to make sure every thing is just the way you want it, polished, and error free if your the picky type who wants to be sure everything is as perfect as possible.

        • Hi Steve,
I don’t make my own videos so I haven’t registered a youtube account but I may do that in the future. I never click the links for “related videos” lol :)
