1. Write blog content for your readers and be consistent when it comes to applying basic SEO techniques.
2.  Use keyword title and sub-title optimization.
3. Use but do not overuse relevant keywords in your posts and tagging. Take the time to carefully select anchor text when you link to related posts within your niche knowing that links to your sources are important for at least four reasons: Verifiability, Acknowledgment, Examples, Context.
4. Make sure your new posts deep link to your older related posts.
5. Optimize your images.

  3. Hi, I have just watched this helpful SEO video – can you help me clarify something? Wwhen it says Anchor text is important – does this mean Anchor text on MY site ( or the Anchor text other sites use to link to my site, or both?

    So, if I want people to know that my site is about spas, retreats, healthy holidays and ways of feeling and being well, and I put in a link to another site called, say, Yeotown – is this saying that I should not make the live link Yeotown, but rather something like, yoga retreat???

    And if someone links from their site to me, is it important their link goes from the words Queen of Retreats, or something more general as to what the site is about?

    Phew – hope this makes sense.

    • Correct anchor text on your own site and on every site linking to your site is very important. Your blog is and that’s what the anchor text that anyone linking to your blog ought to use for the best SEO. If you are linking to the Yeotown Yoga Retreat Center then type out the correct anchor text ie. the whole name Yeotown Yoga Retreat Center for the best SEO.

      • Thanks. To clarify – On the video it says you link from the term ‘books’ if you are linking to ‘amazon’ – so is it better link from a more generic term like ‘yoga retreat’ or the exact name of the place (which in this case is just ‘Yeotown’)?

        Also – do you mean the actual website text is the best anchor text for others to use, rather than Queen of Retreats (making the words link to the site without actually spelling out the site address)?

  4. Hmmm –makes me wonder when people land specifically on one of my blog articles on bike art, where the title has “strippiing”, if such folk were interested in other things totally unbike-like.

    Do I think the domain name helps? I hope so! That’s why I chose cycle write for one of my blogs to make super evident to a user. However that means I should embed a cycling related blog post every so often. (The whole thing isn’t completely devoted to cycling….which isn’t just me anyway.)

    I must admit I’m a bit lazy about using a ton of tags/categories. Wierd, if one knows my formal training and paid work in the past.

Over the last couple of months I’ve noticed a strange thing in my blog’s stats ( The Search Engine Terms used to refer to my posts, titles, content etc. And so I was consequently getting a lot of visitors. Then suddenly, maybe 2-3 weeks ago, the Search Engine Terms referred only to my blog title, or variations of it. And visitor numbers are down. I have not changed anything; just added new blog posts, interesting content, etc. Do you have any explanation timethief? thanks

  7. Thank you for sharing these videos and summing up the key points. I’ve seen some of these SEO optimization strategies before, but it’s good to be reminded from time to time. Any idea how a domain name change affects this process? I’ve recently done that and went over a year without fresh content. It’s as if I’m starting from scratch. I’ve tried to focus and be consistent with words in tags and categories, as you do here on this blog, but I have much to improve in this department. I have noticed that page titles and pictures titles on my blog bring in far more traffic from search engines than key words or categories.

    It’s nice to learn about using the minus sign in searches. I knew about quotes, but this new find is great.

      I do have thoughts on domain names. Domains are given more credibility by Google and other search engines than blogs on sub-domains are given.

      These are the positive factors that Google’s algorithm takes into consideration:

      1. Keyword Use In Title Tag
      2. Global Link Popularity Of The Site
      3. Anchor Text Of Incoming Links
      4. Link Popularity Within The Site
      5. Age Of The Site

      These are the negative factors that Google’s algorithm takes into consideration:

      1. Server Is Often Inaccessible To Googlebot
      2. Content Which Is Very Similar Or Duplicate to Existing Content On The Web
      3. External Links To Low Quality Sites
      4. Participation In Link Schemes or Actively Selling Links
      5. Duplicate Meta Tags On More Pages
