I must have missed the announcement. Does the Facebook like box widget now operate on blogs without the software stripping the code out?  Yes, we now have a Facebook like box widget that can be used  on blogs.  Note that the Like Box only works with Facebook Pages (and not Personal Profiles).

  1. It’s only a small thing, but the title for my facebook like box is a different font than for my other widgets. I think maybe it is because the title is also linked to facebook, whereas other widget titles are not links. Any idea how to remove the link from the title? I’m using chunk theme (widgets at bottom of page) and blog is here:

  2. I am having a problem with this widget:
The Facebook box appears fine along my sidebar (at the right).
But it disappears completely (leaves a blank space) if while on Facebook I switch from my personal profile to my fan page. It seems silly: if on Facebook I’m on my profile, then the blog shows the facebook widget working fine. But if I use Facebook as page (leave the profile), the Facebook widgets seems to disappear and leave a blank space instead. Only the title of the widget remains visible on my blog.
    Why does this happen?

  3. I have 30+ client domains at GoDaddy and had self-hosted WordPress on some of them for awhile but am not using it at the moment. The blog I was writing about is a longtime pro bono project on I prefer to use the latter for volunteer groups because it’s easier to hand off down the road. Most don’t have anyone who knows how to do self-hosted blogs.

  4. Ah – I’m using an older theme for the blog in question, and it doesn’t have that feature. Thanks again!

  5. Thanks for this helpful post. I’m not seeing the option box in your second screen shot ( and am wondering where you found it. (I’m curious whether “Front Page Intro” might mean it could go on a Page rather than in the Sidebar.)

    • This post is for those who have free hosted blogs only. Your’s is not a free hosted blog. The answer to your question is no. Only a few themes do have a Front Page Intro box. Most themes do not have them, and widgets can only be displayed in sidebars or footer areas coded to have widgets display in them.

    • Sorry but that’s not possible on a free hosted blog. On free hosted blogs widgets can only be used in sidebars. is for original content blogs, so no tools for filling posts and pages with automatically generated content are supplied. This is because those tools are the favored tool of sploggers (content thieves) and spammers.

    • I don’t know what you are referring to. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs. The widget is found in our Available widgets in our WordPress.COM dashboards. If you have a self hosted WordPress.ORG install then you will not find the wiget in your install and you don’t need it because you can use the one Facebook provides. vs.

  6. YAY for this news! I was waiting for this, really.
Facebook is partly like connected to everyone’s everyday lives.
    I used it right now.

    • Hello there,
There was no announcement made of which I am aware. I was answering forum questions when I entered a thread and found Staff had entered it and there was such a widget being discussed. Hence I cannot provide a date in answer to your question beyond the date of making that discovery here > Note that when I posed a question to Staff in that thread it was completely ignored. I’m glad you like the new Facebook like boi widget and wish you all the best with your blogging.

  7. Hi tt!

I was actually going over my widgets to see if my blog theme had any “special” widgets of its own when I came across this “Like! Box” widget! What a surprise indeed! Especially since I haven’t come across any announcement from

Anyways, I’m so glad they came up with this!

    • You have the Facebook badge on your blog. You do not have the new facebook like box widget installed in your sidebar. Go here > Appearnce > Widgets and you will find a new widget.

  8. I didn’t see this either, and thanks to your post checked my widgets and there it was! Thanks! I had a little trouble at first, but that is because I have a bandaid on my finger and can’t type very well, apparently. ;-)

    • Hello there,
I’m glad to hear you are happy. I visited your site and saw your Facebook like box widget. Your recipes made my mouth water. Happy blogging! :)

  9. I am new at all of this so bare with me. I am not seeing the “sharing” button under my settings on my dashboard. Is there a plugin I need to get. I do have WordPress for my blog.

    • Found it. If I would have read further, I would have answered my own question and learned tha self-hosted folks should try sharedaddy.. Love your site by the way and thanks for keeping me updated. Essential for me as a new blogger.

    • Hi Grances,
The blog linked to your usename is a WordPress.ORG install and not a WordPress.COM free hsted blog. The two run on different software and the widget I am referring to is only found in the widgets for WordPress.COM blog.
The Facebook like box widget that comes from Facebook will run on your WordPress.ORG install.

  10. OH MY GOD!! :)
It will be convenient for many bloggers, no doubt about that.
Thanks again for the wonderful news.

      • However, one thing is bugging me. The color is very dark and it is difficult to read what is written in the frame. Here is my URL :-
You will see that the color is remaining dark even if I choose light or dark from the color scheme option.
        Please help.
P.S. I wonder if anyone else is having that problem.

        • As your are using Inuit Types the dark background color in the widgets is causing this. I think you should report this to Staff. The form will be open again at 12PM UTC on Monday 18th July.

After you use the searchbox at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.
