Post revisions feature at WordPress.com

Recently, WordPress.com introduced a new feature called Post Revisions (introduced in WordPress 2.6 self-hosted version). In addition to being able to go back to, and compare previous versions of a post, it has the added benefit of saving you from those (somewhat rare though not unheard of) instances when you press the save or publish button and your post disappears due to some glitch at WordPress or on the internet.

The one thing to remember though is that it only creates post revisions when you click save. Autosave does not create post revisions.

Actually the Post Revision feature saved me just now. I had put the title of this piece in and written the first paragraph, assigned categories, and then clicked save (which created a revision). I wrote the second paragraph and again clicked save, but when the editor refreshed, the text area was blank. I recovered my first paragraph and category assignments with just a few clicks.

The one thing to remember is that you must click save for the system to create the post revisions.

Post Revisions is a welcome new feature here at WordPress.com and one that should help to lower frustration levels for us all. AND it works with pages as well!

Teck, thanks and thanks for the the tip on the Easter egg. Apple and Apple third-party developers used to put Easter eggs in the system software and in some programs. I always enjoyed finding them.

Mark, it’s on the edit post and edit page pages clear at the bottom. It appears after you save a post or page.
